Greetings
Carroll University is committed to providing a distinctive program of international, multi-cultural experiences for every student. This important collaboration with Maestro Filippo Salemmi and the musicians from the city bands of Norcia and Bevagna brings that philosophy to life—and serves as a reminder that the power of music to move the soul and enlighten the mind is truly universal. I send warm regards to our friends in Italy involved with this project, to the mayors and the people of the cities of Bevagna, Norcia, and Ottobeuren, and most especially to these outstanding musicians who are making the world a more enriching and humane place for us all.
With many thanks and warmest greetings from America,
Dr. Douglas N. Hastad, President

The ancient towns of Bevagna, founded by the Romans, and Norcia, the birthplace of Saint Benedict, Patron Saint of Europe, have always shown great sensibility and love for music: both support activities and educational projects aimed at promoting the knowledge and practice of music, Italian and international. Their municipal music schools are attended by many youngs tudents, and in their town bands many are the young players, some of whom have now turned successful professionals, thusmaking our communities proud of their promising achievements.
The current exchange programme is just one among the significant projects and activities which, at an International level, are now under way in our Region. Many young musicians are involved (in Master courses, postgraduate seminars and courses for wind orchestras, promoted by the joint Bevagna-Norcia Wind Orchestra, the Norcia Music Summer Camps, the Youth Wind Orchestra for Umbrian players, ANBIMA Umbria / Region of Umbria)
Our choice to appoint teachers from American universities stems from these institutions being the cuttingedge in developing long-term art projects (planning art events and activities) and the high standard of their music projects, the repertoire they propose, their study and research programmes and up-to-date teaching methods, thuspaving the way for exchanges which constitute the core of young people’s education, in an attempt to promote a really multicultural and constantly self-renewing approach.
Another important music projectis the one that, within the Norcia – Ottobeuren exchange programme, the Town of Norcia Wind Orchestra has long promoted with the Bavarian city. This year, on the occasion of the 1250th anniversary of the foundation of the Benedictine Basilica in Ottobeuren, the two townbands have decided to get the city of Ottobeuren involved in the project with a concert that will be held in the Kaiser Saal on August 28th next.
The town of Bevagna has made August the Month of Music with the Musica Urbis Festival, in which artists take part of nationwide and International renown who, in a friendly and collaborative atmosphere, cooperate with young people from around the world and all the local music institutions, offering performances of a most high standard.
We heartfully thank Mr Larry Harper and Mr Filippo Salemmi, Carroll University and the city of Ottobeuren for living us an opportunity to complete this important project that will help enhance the cultural level of our communities.
Our special thanks to all our players.

Saluti
